Foster child beaten and abused by a lawyer foster parent

(Feb 25, 2010) A former Crown Ward of the CAS has contacted Canada Court Watch with chilling details of being in the care of the CAS in Ontario while being placed in the home of a prominent and well respected lawyer who was a foster parent for a large CAS agency here in Ontario.

She describes beatings with a belt and locked in the basement of the foster home by her foster father who was a prominent lawyer at the time. She also describes how fearful she was to speak out. After all who would believe a kid over the word of a respected member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. She also describes a foster mother who took her out of school in order to work and then take the money she earned. All while being under the care of the CAS in Ontario.

This former Crown Ward says that she wants to come forth with her story so that the lifetime of horror that she experienced at the hands of the CAS will not happen to other children.

Court Watch will be releasing a full report on this story which will shock the community. Stay tuned for more info.

When this story breaks, it can be reported in such a way that the CAS can be identified because nothing prevents such. As long as CCW reports that "the person said".. CCW is not saying it, therefore no liability.

I hope those who are responsible are held to account.

Much like this Toronto Star article touches on.. (click to read) the need for CAS's to have effective oversight for all issues. Not just for when CAS does not respond when they should but for when they act unlawfully, when they violate the rights of children and youth in care, any many other violations of law and rights.
